INJAP's Gift to Ilonggos!
It was a long-time and much-awaited dream for the Ilonggos. And it took the magnificent “Mang Inasal” to make it happen. It was sometime in October 2010 when “Mang Inasal” himself Edgar “Injap” Sia II accepted an invitation for an audience with Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog in Manila – not just for a business meeting – but for the high hopes of making then proposed Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) a reality.
Injap was asked of his benevolence by Mayor Jed who wasted no time convincing the benefactor to established the ICCC building in Corner Tiolas-M.H. del Pilar Streets, Molo district, Iloilo City.
Envisioning the ICCC as the city’s masterpiece and centerpiece of educational development, Mayor Mabilog luckily got the nod of the philanthropist who has the heart and mind for pushing quality public education to greater heights of glory and achievement.
Two months later on December 8, 2010, the P30-M four-storey ICCC broke ground on its 869-sq-m site for the constructions of a new building complete with facilities and fixtures.
“We believe that education is the best way to fight poverty,” the head of Injap Foundation Inc. stressed in giving the gift of knowledge and learning to the Ilonggos.
“Our dream of a city college came into reality. We are very thankful to Mr. Injap for his legacy to the city that will greatly help and benefit the Ilonggos,” said Mayor Mabilog.
Injap turned over the ICCC to the City Government on February 27, 2012 with Mayor Mabilog receiving the ceremonial key in a simple rite.
No less than President Benigno S. Aquino III inaugurated the ICCC on June 1, 2012.
The ICCC is formally launched on June 14, 2012 with its pioneer students as witnesses.
The green-colored building is equipped with school administration offices, 17 classrooms named after members of the Sia family, 150-seater library, audio-visual room, and 50-seater computer laboratory, 50 desk chairs per room, teacher’s desk, whiteboard and for electric fans per room.
The ICCC in now home to hundreds of hopeful souls who are less privileged but deserving students slowly but surely reaching for their dreams.
